VE DAY 75th anniversary CELEBRATIONS

Friday 8th May 2020

To celebrate the 75th anniversary of ‘Victory in Europe’ or VE Day the pupils at the Sacred Heart Language College were encouraged to take part in a range of activities culminating in the nationwide  two minute silence and watching the Queen’s television address on 8th May 2020. As these photographs show, a large number of students took part; making bunting for their windows, carrot scones, flapjacks and home-made lemonade and learning to dance the ‘jitterbug’ and sing ‘Doing the Lambeth Walk’ and ‘We’ll meet again’. Not only was a creative time had by all (despite being in lockdown)  but the pupils gained a clear understanding of why it is important to commemorate anniversaries such as this to recognise the sacrifices and hardships faced by those in the past so that we can live in a fair, democratic society today.
