ART TRIP TO ST IVES

9th -12th October 2026
From the 9th to the 12th October, year 9, 10 & 11 Art Students had the opportunity to go on a residential Trip to St Ives in Cornwall. Whilst in St Ives, we got to take part in a variety of creatively enriching activities such as cyanotypes, expressive mark making, pottery and visits to art galleries and museums. On our first day, we got to go and visit The Eden Project. The Eden Project is a botanical biome that contains lots of different species of plants and flowers as well as habitats that are the homes of different animals from the Mediterranean and Rain Forest Biome. It was beautiful to be surrounded by the vast number of different plants and read about their origins.
On our second day we visited the Barbra Hepworth Museum and The Tate. Both contained local artists who were from Cornwall. We got a chance to learn about different artists and the origins and backgrounds of each artwork. When we got back, we took part in a workshop that gave us insight into a method to help us set the scene and remember. On our third day, we either took part in trying to make our own cyanotype prints and experimenting with different layers and negatives, or we did expressive mark making of the Cornish coast.
After these activities, we took part in a pottery workshop and got to make our own Yunomis (tea bowls) and experiment with carving and shaping. That evening we took part in a Sea Shanty workshop, making our own verses to fit out experience in Cornwall. On our last day, we were able to visit Falmouth University and see into its Art courses. Overall, my trip to Cornwall was very enjoyable, enriched my learning, and I made lots of precious memories with my friends and peers.
