On Tuesday 28 April, 15 Year 8 pupils visited North London Collegiate School to attend an inspiring talk by young adult author Amy-Mae Baxter.

A former student of the school herself, Amy-Mae returned to share her journey from working in publishing as an Editorial Director at HarperCollins, to becoming a published author. She gave pupils a fascinating insight into the realities of life in the publishing industry and the creative process behind writing for young adults. Amy-Mae is also the founder and editor of Bad Form, a magazine by and about writers of colour.

During the session, pupils learnt how Amy-Mae develops her ideas, finds inspiration, and transforms these into compelling stories. Her debut YA novel, The Between Worlds B&B, was published in May 2026, and each student was delighted to receive a complimentary copy to take home.

The visit was a truly enriching experience, giving pupils a deeper understanding of the writing process while inspiring an even greater enthusiasm for reading and creative writing.
