BOOK WEEK 2026
Monday 9th - Thursday 12th March 2026
Book Week started with Sara Grant an author, writer, editor and mentor who talked to Year 9 about her journey to becoming an author, followed by a creative writing workshop. Some fantastic work was produced.
On Tuesday, Jack Meggitt-Philips, a storyteller and author. Jack is the author of The Beast and the Bethany – a five-part children’s series about a young 500-year-old, a hungry beast, and a rebellious prankster who’s about to be eaten.
The series has been translated into over 30 languages, and has had a major film deal announced with Harry Potter producer, Heyday Films. The series has also won the West Sussex Children’s Book Award, the Alexandra Palace Children’s Book Award, the Stockport Children’s Book Award, the Fantastic Book Award, the Awesome Book Award, and the Channel Island Children’s Book Award.
Jack had the students enthralled throughout the sessions. He told them a chapter from one of his books followed by a creative writing workshop where the students got involved. Students produced some lovely work and will be able to take the skills they learnt into their English lessons.

Ash Dickinson a poet, entertained and involved Year 8 students on Wednesday with his poetry, followed by a poetry workshop. Students read out their finished poems to the group, so many wonderful poems were created in the workshops.
To round off the week, we finished on Thursday with our Book Fair, where students got the opportunity to purchase books.
Book Week proved to be a resounding success, celebrating not only a love of stories but the joy of reading for pleasure. A big thank you to all our guests for making this week so special.
A particular highlight was the book fair, where students eagerly selected books that sparked their interests and reflected their individuality as readers. It has been wonderful to see those same books now in classrooms and around the school, with students fully immersed in reading choices they made themselves. This sense of ownership has further strengthened our reading culture, inspiring enthusiasm, confidence, and a genuine passion for books that we hope will continue well beyond the week’s celebrations.
