FUTURE FRIDAYS CAREERS TALK

Friday 20th June

On Friday 20th June, we held our first Future Friday careers talk which was about nursing. This was delivered by one of our alumni and was incredibly interesting. It focused on what skills and attributes are required, as well as academic qualifications and pathways in nursing. The students who attended also got the opportunity to interact with inflatable CPR dummies, blood pressure monitors and sets of false teeth. Great fun was had by all! There will be many of these Future Friday talks moving forwards so that our pupils are exposed to a wide range of careers to help when planning their own futures.

Mrs Williams - Assistant Headteacher

On 20th June at lunchtime Mrs Williams brought an ex-pupil of Sacred Heart to talk about her career in nursing. Overall, it was great and she went over the basic necessities including the positives and negatives. Hearing from someone about their career is a great way of opening up the students minds into thinking about what they want to do in the future. At the end of the session everyone got to look around and do some practical work such as doing CPR on a dummy, how to use injection pens and allowing us to measure our blood pressure. Following up, today (11th July) we had another ex-student who came to talk about her career in medicine. It was amazing as she was closer to our age and gave us alternative routes into health care instead of universities and A-levels. She shared that even being a student doctor she helped deliver a baby which was shocking to her but a wonderful experience. She explained different branches of medicine like paediatrics, cardiology, and ophthalmology. These talks are a great way of exploring future careers.
