yEAR 9 FIRST GIVE CHARITY PROJECT
Wednesday 7th May
This year it was our turn to spread social awareness for our chosen charities for First Give. Each form picked a charity that was important to them. 9H picked ‘The Wish Centre’, 9E picked ‘Scope’, 9A picked ‘Mind’, 9R picked ‘Kids Can Achieve’ and 9T picked ‘Harrow Samaritans’. Each form had a special connection for why they picked their charity which made their awareness campaigns personal and effective.
We initially kicked off our fundraising activities with a ‘Pi Day’ bake sale. Here each form found ways to celebrate ‘Pi Day’ as well as informing students about the charity they had chosen.
As each form’s campaign continued, we all had a chance to experience unique activities and also become more knowledgeable about the impact of each form’s charity. Notably, each form had some very interesting and inventive ways of spreading social awareness. 9H had a pick and mix stand, tombola and a guessing game on sweets in a jar. 9A had a range of exciting henna, Irish dancing and slime-making workshops. 9E were our saviours of the hot weather with a sale of ice lollies and chocolate strawberries. 9R provided a very popular noodle stand with sweet bags. 9T had a further range of bake sales and sweet sales. These events were thoroughly enjoyed by the whole school, and it was great to spread awareness, fundraise and have fun.
First Give representatives kindly assisted some students who were presenting with a workshop on how to provide further social awareness for the First Give final.
The First Give final was fast approaching and both staff and Year 8 eagerly watched as each form reflected upon how they spread social awareness for their chosen charity. There were some insightful highlights, one being 9H’s intriguing interview video, 9E’s heart-warming awareness campaign on kindness. 9A included a role play in their presentation that was very effective in reminding us to take care of our mental health. 9R and 9T provided awareness for their charities by placing cards with facts to allow students to fully reflect on their own chances to achieve and also to provide further awareness on mental health. The winners of First Give 2025 were 9A, it was well deserved as they had distinctive social awareness events and had a compelling presentation on their charity. Well, done 9A!
Overall, it was an informative and fun experience. We would like to give our thanks to the First Give team, the charity representatives, Mr. Fahy, Mrs. Thenuwara, the Y9 form tutor team and everyone in Y9 for working so hard in spreading social awareness for their charities.
