The Sacred Heart Language College

Make Your Mark

Last week over 500 students took part in voting for Make Your Mark. Each student took part in lessons during PSHE and tutor time to learn about the Make Your Mark campaign and how the issues impacted them. The issues students could vote on were: voting age changed to 16, a curriculum to prepare students for life, action on body image, improved public transport, first aid education for all young people, improved mental health services, improved youth services, improve funding for the NHS, action on racism and religious discrimination and action on sexual harassment in schools.

Students voted over the course of four days last week and we had excellent voter turnout with the voting booths outside the hall inundated with students eager to vote.

Vote counting took place on Monday 3rd of October with the issue voted most important by the pupils of The Sacred Heart being funding for the NHS. This will now be passed on to Harrow Youth Parliament to debate and discuss before making its way to the National Youth Parliament and finally the UK Parliament.
