The Sacred Heart Language College

Year 8 workshop with adisa the verbalizer

Tuesday 13th October 2026

On Tuesday 13th October, our Year 8 students had the privilege of taking part in a series of inspiring workshops led by renowned spoken word poet Adisa the Verbalizer. Through his workshops, When Words Become Jazz and Yoruba Mythology: The Superhero in Me, students explored the power of storytelling, poetry and self-expression.

Students thoroughly enjoyed listening to Adisa's stories about his childhood, his passion for language, and his journey as a writer and performer. His animated poetry performances captivated audiences, bringing words to life and demonstrating how poetry can be both entertaining and meaningful.

A particular highlight was the opportunity for every student to write and perform their own poem, encouraging creativity, confidence and personal reflection. Students embraced the challenge with enthusiasm, producing thoughtful and imaginative pieces inspired by the themes explored throughout the workshops.

Edele and Kishani from 8E described the sessions as "very interactive, engaging and inspiring." Many students left feeling motivated to develop their own writing and to see poetry as a powerful way of sharing ideas, experiences and emotions.

We are delighted to have had this unique opportunity to share a love of language and poetry with our students. The workshops not only celebrated creativity and culture but also encouraged students to find their own voice and recognise the storyteller within themselves.
