YEAR 8 STEM EVENT

17th March 2026

Year Eight Scientists Build Brilliant Bridges!

25 Year Eight science students took part in an exciting STEM challenge led by a visiting STEM Ambassador.

The task sounded simple… at first. Each team had to build a bridge using only a selection of everyday materials, then test whether their creation could hold a stack of heavy textbooks. To succeed, they had to use their science knowledge about forces, pressure, and strong structures — and, of course, plenty of imagination.

From the moment the challenge began, the room buzzed with teamwork, determination, and the joyful, can-do attitude that every Sacred-Heart girl is known for. There were moments of careful planning, bursts of creative problem-solving, and lots of laughter as ideas were tested, improved, and tested again.

And the best part?

⭐ Every single group succeeded!

Each team built a bridge strong enough to support the textbooks — proving that when science, teamwork, and enthusiasm come together, amazing things can happen.

Our STEM Ambassador was incredibly impressed, praising the students for their curiosity, resilience, and brilliant scientific thinking. We couldn’t be prouder of the way they represented our school.

Well done, Year 8
