NORTH LONDON COLLEGIATE SCHOOL - AUTHOR ELLIE MCNICHOLL TRIP

Monday 24th November 2025

On Monday 24th November we took 13 pupils from Year 7 & 9 to North London Collegiate School to hear from award-winning children’s book author Ellie McNicoll.

Ellie is an award-winning novelist and screenwriter. Her debut A Kind of Spark won the Blue Peter Book Award and the Overall Waterstones Children’s Book Prize. Ellie spoke about her journey to becoming an author.  We also listened to what life is like when you are an author, getting inspiration for ideas and then turning them into a book.

It was a wonderful experience for our pupils, who gained insight into becoming a writer and to inspire a passion for reading and writing.

I am Eleonore from Year 7; I was very happy to be chosen to go on the author trip to North London Collegiate school. My experience was fun and inspired me to continue reading, and I learnt from the author that being autistic is a good thing, and she chooses to make people aware of that by writing funny and amusing books that I look forward to reading.

On Monday 24th of November we went on a trip to meet an author called Elle McNicoll at North London Collegiate School.

A selection of students from Year 7 and 9 came for this trip and I felt really happy and thankful that I have been nominated to go on this trip.

When we got to the (NLCS) school I was amazed and shocked at how beautiful and big the school was. We went into the assembly hall and there we all saw Elle McNicoll, and we were shown different photos of her and different books that she had written.  She shared with us what she enjoys in her job as an author, and also about her year 11 experience and told us what made it so traumatic for her and why she was inspired to write a book called 'Role Model'. I was astonished by what she had gone through in year 11, and I felt honestly bad for her. We ended with meeting Ellie to get our books signed by her, which was amazing.

We ended up eating lunch in the school library (which has 3 floors, I didn't expect 3 floors for a library!) and we then travelled back to school.

I can't thank Ms Williams, our Librarian, for choosing me to come on the wonderful trip. I would like to go again at another time if it is possible, but I really enjoyed this experience.
