Year 8 Mission dAY - Pilgrims of Hope in a Restless World
Tuesday 14th October 2025
On Tuesday 14th October, Year 8 students stepped away from their usual timetable to take part in a powerful and inspiring Mission
Day, themed “Pilgrims of Hope in a Restless World.” The morning was filled with opportunities to encounter the heart of Catholic missionary work through a rich variety of voices and experiences.
Students engaged in four interactive sessions led by visiting Religious Sisters, Priests, and Lay Missionaries who dedicate their lives to serving the poor, refugees, and other vulnerable communities around the world. These included representatives from the RNDM Sisters, the Immaculate Heart of Mary (IHM), the Dominican Order, the Marist Fathers, and Jesuit Refugee Services (JRS), as well as a dynamic lay evangelist, Ms Allegra Mutunda.
Each session offered a unique perspective on what it means to live a life of vocation, a central theme of the day. Students explored how Catholics are called to serve, whether through religious life or as lay people living out their faith in everyday contexts. Through drama, dance, storytelling, and discussion, they learned that vocation is not just about a job or role, but about responding to God’s call with courage, compassion, and hope.
The day began with a whole-year assembly and concluded with a moment of prayer and reflection, bringing together the insights and inspiration gathered throughout the morning.
Staff and chaperones supported the smooth running of the event, ensuring that our guests experienced the warmth and hospitality that The Sacred Heart is known for.
Mission Day was not only a celebration of faith in action but also a chance for our students to reflect on their own journey and how they, too, might be called to make a difference in the world.
