Black History Month 2025

Black History Month 2025 at the Sacred Heart

As a school we have been celebrating Black History Month throughout the month of October. The theme of this year’s commemoration is “Standing Firm in Power and Pride”. At the start of the month, our students joined young people and schools across the country in The Great Big Live Assembly for Black History Month. This provided an engaging and thought-provoking introduction to the month, getting the students to reflect on current issues within society, for example the way the England flag is being used in some parts of the country to represent some people’s points of view.

The main celebration centred around the Black History Month Assembly, which was prepared and led by our Head of Culture and Diversity, Gabriella Cameron and her fellow senior students. It was a vibrant and uplifting experience, with sour students presenting on figures of historical and cultural importance. Through poetry and personal testimony, our students made the importance of the issues raised relevant to everyone listening.

The assembly also included a performance of African drumming which again bought to life the information being presented. Our celebration culminated with an uplifting dance performance that marked a joyful start to the school day.
