GEOGRAPHY IN ACTION - KS3 & KS4 FIELDWORK

June 2025

As part of the Geographical Association’s National Fieldwork Fortnight, students across Years 7 to 9 took their geography learning outdoors with hands-on investigations around our school site. Year 7 explored microclimates, collecting data on wind, temperature, and sunlight to determine the best location for a wind turbine or solar panel. Years 8 and 9 focused on improving the sustainability of our school grounds, identifying areas for better green spaces, water use, and eco-friendly travel options. It was a fantastic opportunity for students to apply their learning in a practical setting and see the impact of geography in everyday life.

In June, our Year 10 Geography students completed a fieldwork enquiry as part of their GCSE course, examining the interactions between physical and human processes. This enquiry will be assessed in Paper 3 of the Geography GCSE exam in June 2026. On their visit to Leigh-on-Sea, Essex, students investigated the impact of tourism on the urban environment and the effects of human activity along the coastline. They evaluated how these factors shape both the town and its coastal areas. This fieldwork provided valuable practical experience, helping students develop key skills and deepen their understanding of geographical concepts.
