School Mission Day - Year 8
On Tuesday 15th October our Year 8 pupils participated in our School Mission Day. The theme of the day was developing a deeper understanding of the school mission statement “Confident in God’s Love for us. We commit ourselves to His Service”. The aim of the team that planned and delivered the day was to provide a range of opportunities for the girls to learn more about the spirit of the founders of the school and to encounter the transformative work being carried out by Nuns and Priests from different religious orders and congregations, including the Sisters of Our Lady of the Missions as well as lay volunteers from organisations like the Jesuit Refugee Service.
The facilitators that worked with our girls who travelled from as far afield as Rome, India, South Sudan and Palestine to share their work with the marginalised, vulnerable and sick. There were several who work specifically in girls’ education in places where most girls are not able to access education because of poverty and war. It was a day that led to a great deal of poignant debate, response and commentary from the girls who participated. The pupils grew in their understanding of the mission of the school and all agreed that it was a day that will continue to have an impact throughout this academic year and beyond.
