holocaust memorial visit 2017

Thursday 2nd February 2017

On Thursday 2nd February all of Year 10 pupils had the opportunity to attend a study conference to mark Holocaust Memorial Day at Belmont Synagogue.

I thoroughly enjoyed the talk by survivor Harry Spiro. Having him talk to us about his tragic experience really consolidated what we had been doing in history classes and allowed us to gain a deeper
understanding of the persecution of Jews at this time. His presence was a privilege and his message
was valuable and was one we can apply to our everyday lives of ‘love for all’.                         Ella Walsh 10A

After listening to Harry, about the harsh realities faced by Jews (and other groups during the Nazi regime) I felt extremely uplifted by his forgiving attitude towards those who had caused him and his family such suffering. Furthermore, the message I will take with me from this experience is that to forgive those who cause the most pain, make you not only brave and thoughtful but a powerful human being.                                                                                                                                            Clodagh Greavy 10R

It was a very moving and touching experience. The survivor’s experiences were heartbreaking and emotional but they were also filled with hope for a better world and future. It inspires us to never give up and to keep going no matter how hard life gets.                                                    Agnieszka Sobanska 10T
