The Sacred Heart Language College

YEAR 5 TASTER DAY

Monday 7th July

Inspiring Young Minds for a Bright Future

On Monday 7th July we were delighted to welcome over 200 enthusiastic Year 5 pupils from local primary schools for our annual Taster Day. Students from St Joseph’s, St George’s, St John Fischer, St Bernadettes, St Teresa's and St Anselm’s enjoyed the chance to experience the excitement of secondary school life and discover what makes The Sacred Heart Language College such a special place to learn and grow.

From the moment the pupils arrived, they were greeted by our Year 9 and Year 11 student ambassadors. Many were amazed at the size of the building, the range of specialist classrooms, and the welcoming atmosphere throughout.

The day was packed with engaging and hands-on lessons across a variety of subjects. In Science, pupils explored exciting experiments; the Modern Foreign Languages department brought French and Spanish to life through games, songs, and interactive activities. In the Performing Arts sessions, pupils had the chance to try their hand at music, drama, and art—participating in an African drumming workshop, creating colourful posters and even performing short scenes.

One of the highlights for many was the chance to enjoy chatting with new friends. The morning ended with a fun feedback session in the hall with Ms Walsh.

Feedback from pupils and staff alike has been overwhelmingly positive. One Year 5 student said, "I loved the science lessons! "I can’t wait to come back when I’m in Year 7." Another added, "Everyone was so friendly, and I wasn’t nervous any more after five minutes."

We are proud to offer such an enriching transition experience, and we look forward to welcoming many of our visitors back as Year 7 students in the future. A huge thank you to all our staff, student ambassadors, and visiting primary schools who helped make the day such a success.
