The Sacred Heart Language College

MFL Year 10 - st george's primary school

In July, a few Year 10 students visited St George’s Primary School, one of Sacred Heart’s feeder schools. This has become something of an annual tradition! We taught Year 5 children some basic Spanish, focusing on numbers, fruit and vegetables, and simple role plays. We introduced new vocabulary through games, songs, and speaking activities, encouraging the children to use Spanish words in context. They practised short dialogues, such as shopping for fruit, which helped build their confidence in speaking and listening.

We kept the lessons interactive and practical, giving everyone a chance to join in and have a go. It was an extremely honouring experience to teach young children and encourage them to learn languages, as languages help boost memory, learn new cultures, and help remain resilient. This trip was also extremely helpful for the current year 10s as we learnt how to remain patient and we also discovered many new and creative ways to learn. Furthermore, it also gave us an insight into teaching, which has inspired many girls to potentially become teachers.      Julia 10A
